It was founded on the principles of a continuing initiative that supports innovators, creatives, thinkers, disruptors, doers, and dreamers exploring the future of VR, AR, MR and XR contributing to the growth of the XR industry​.

The Academy of International Extended Reality (AIXR) operates as an independent, not-for-profit entity structured as a company limited by guarantee.

This setup ensures that it remains distinct and autonomous from AIXR's commercial operations. The primary role of the Academy is to focus on educational and standard-setting activities within the extended reality (XR) industry, this helps the awards to maintain impartiality and credibility in its initiatives, such as the establishment of industry standards, professional accreditation programs, and the organization of International Award Shows.

The Academy can dedicate its efforts to serving the broader interests of the XR community, fostering an environment of trust and integrity.
